About

What is OccupyMN?

We are a volunteer collective of individuals that are standing in solidarity with the Occupy Movement and are working to connect Minnesota with the Global Revolution Movement. We stand with the principles of both Occupy Wall Street and our local OccupyMN networks.

The Occupy Movement is an expansive network of individuals and groups working together to fight for economic justice in the face of rampant criminality on Wall Street and a government controlled by monied interests. We, “the 99%”, are trying to wrestle government control out the hands of the “1%”. OccupyMN is a people’s movement. It is leaderless and party-less by design. It is not a business, a political party, an advertising campaign or a brand. It is not for sale.

What is the Occupy Wall Street Movement?

Please read the #OWS FAQ’s for more information about the purpose of the Occupy Movement.

What is the purpose of OccupyMN.org?

OccupyMN.org is an online resource for the Minnesotan Occupy Movement. We are a volunteer collective of individuals that are standing in solidarity with the Occupy Movement and are working to connect Minnesota with the Global Revolution Movement. We stand with the principles of both Occupy Wall Street and our local OccupyMN networks.

What are our goals?

Our main focus is to help build a unified voice for the occupants of Minnesota. The way we can accomplish this is by collaborating and building with all of the Minnesotan occupations through the use of neutral reporting, educational campaigning, and by training a new generation of activists.

Why are we autonomous of the Minneapolis GA?

While OccupyMN had been a vital resource for the Minneapolis Occupation, the General Assembly of Occupy Minneapolis decided through consensus that the term ‘OccupyMN’ and the purpose of OccupyMN.org  was better suited to stand in solidarity with all of the Minnesotan Occupations and become a resource for the movement in entirety. We stand in solidarity with Occupy Minneapolis, but maintain autonomy from their decision making process so that we can continue to promote and provide resources to those throughout the entire state of Minnesota.

Are OccupyMN activists paid?

OccupyMN is a grassroots, volunteer-driven collective of individuals. Volunteers of the OccupyMN Collective have never received any sort of stipend or wage for their work within the collective. While this fact remains true of those that continue to plan actions here on OccupyMN.org, that is not necessarily true for all of the groups that have developed throughout the Occupy Movement. One of the goals of our collective is to not receive payment for our advocacy.

In 2011, OccupyMN.org did help collect donations for Occupy Minneapolis, however those funds were under the supervision and management of the Occupy Minneapolis Finance Committee. These funds were used to help support the many expenses and projects of Occupy Minneapolis and did not finance any personal stipends for efforts within the movement.
