Occupy Des Moines to Deliver Letter to DNC Chair at 1pm Today

Occupy Iowa Caucus campaign demands meeting with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Des Moines, IA – At 1 pm today, Occupy Des Moines will hand deliver a letter to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), at the DNC’s so-called “war room” at the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel. They demand a meeting at the group’s Occupy Iowa Caucus campaign headquarters tomorrow afternoon.

The text of the letter is:

Dear Representative Wasserman Schultz,

The Democratic party has held the White House since 2008 and had a Democratic majority in Congress for two years. During that time President Obama and the Democratic Party put the agenda of Wall Street and the Corporate 1% first, over the needs of 99% of the country. Your leadership failed us. You must do better in 2012.

We want to meet with you tomorrow afternoon at the Occupy Caucus Headquarters at 504 E. Locust. Please contact Stephen Toothman at 515-480-5682 by 6pm tonight with your reply.

For a more just and democratic society,

Occupy Des Moines and Allied Occupiers

The U.S. Senate’s overuse of the “Silent Filibuster” since 2008, along with a radical, hostage taking group of Republican Despots in the U.S. House of Representatives has hindered the entire democratic party. The tactics of Eric Cantor, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell since 2010 have allowed the Republican Tea Party to take the Elderly, the Unemployed, and even the Federal Government (Debt Ceiling) as hostages. The Republicans have behaved like spoiled brats with a “if we don’t get our way, we’ll cut off your money” attitude. They threatened to stop payments to Unemployed Individuals who went past 99 weeks out of work, they threatened to stop payments to millions of Old and Disabled by not allowing an increase in the Federal Debt Ceiling, and they threatened to stop the Payroll Tax Break for millions of working Americans LAST WEEK.

The Democrats do not have a majority in the U.S. Senate due to the overuse of the “Silent Filibuster” by the Republican Party on every important vote. Every important vote actually needs 60 VOTES to pass according to the Senate Filibuster Rules. All it takes is one anonymous Republican to call a Filibuster important the vote actually needs 60 VOTES to pass according to the Senate Filibuster Rules. The American public is not even allowed to know the name of the Republican who invoked the Filibuster !!!! The Democrats do not truly have a majority in the Senate until they hold AT LEAST 61 seats.

If you want the Democrats to do better YOU need to go to the Polls and vote Democrat in November 2012 and bring a Democratic Majority to Washington D.C. in January of 2013. Asking the Democrats to do better in 2012 is premature. The Republicans have the majority in BOTH the House and the Senate through 2012.

Keep your eye on OWS goals: Overturn the Supreme Court Citizens United decision regarding unlimited PAC funding by corporations and get the money out of the U.S. political process. Support funding for the Citizens Protection Bureau and compel Corporate Banks to do HONEST business with U.S. Citizens. Press for the arrest and conviction of the Wall Street Banksters who are behind the Home Foreclosure Crisis in America. The Natural Consequence of attaining these goals will be a better more vibrant U.S. Economy in the future.
