Gathering to Re-Claim the Plaza and Celebrate the Occupation!
Sunday, December 11

1:00 pm sign making @ American Indian Center, 1530 East Franklin Avenue  Minneapolis

3:00 pm sign-hanging & hot drinks @ The People’s Plaza, 300 6th St. Minneapolis

UPDATE as of 12/10 9:00 pm: 4:30 – 7:30 meeting to organize OccupyMN Winter Support at the People’s Plaza, keep the momentum going, organize events and actions that express the demands of the 99%.  This meeting will be held in the Skyway connecting the Hennepin County Government Center and the parking lot over 4th Avenue.

On the 2 month anniversary of OccupyMN, we will gather at The People’s Plaza again as we reclaim our space and continue our fight for equality and justice!

Sarah Martin said, “Last week Hennipen County Government Center staff took away tarps and sleeping bags from the plaza without providing legal justification for their action.  The county is doing everything they can to stifle dissent and stop people from maintaining a 24 hour protest.”

Sam Richards said, “The 1% can pay for a place at the table, the only way the 99% can have our voices heard is ongoing occupations and protests in public spaces.  The Hennepin County attorney is trying to take away our right to assemble and be heard. The People’s Plaza is our Plaza – a place for us to gather, to organize and to voice our demands for a society that puts people over profits.”

He added, “The County has tried everything they can think of to take the plaza from us – seizing our tents, tarps and blankets, banning dozens of individual occupiers with trespass notices, and a constant campaign of harassment and threats.  But we refuse to be deterred. The County can steal our belongings but they cannot evict our demand for justice!”

Sunday afternoon will be a sign hanging at the plaza as well as an opportunity to hear from Occupiers returning from actions in Washington D.C.

I’ve got an idea, why don’t you guys get together and collect donations and food for those in need. That would actually make a difference.

    • William Hessian

@B4e2n0 demanding justice and waking up the 99% to the inequalities and injustices that surround us IS making a difference.

      • Ziggie

@william hessian: collecting donations is a nice idea. Especially when so many of the 99% are suffering. Anyway, protest is good and important, but it needs to lead to some kind of action. Average Minnesotans are losing interest.

That’s what the home occupations are about.

To paraphrase what Cons like you like to say whenever you’re asked to help anyone whose skin color and financial status differs from your own: Feed a man a meal, you’ve fed him a meal. Show a man how to fix the injustices that keep him from earning a decent living and you’ve fed him and his descendants for their lifetimes.

No one is saying that you can’t protest. Protest all you want, you just can’t spend the night and leave you crap laying around.
